I haven’t done anything productive all day long. What have I done? I’ve enjoyed a little bit of Virginia Beach sun and I went to the mall with my parents (yes, I am still 14 years old), but for the most part, I spent all day on Facebook. My friend Sarah brings up a very good point:
s******n: you know
s******n: i used to mess around on facebook
s******n: just looking at updates and whatnot
s******n: now i spend all my time on games
What happened? Where did we go wrong? Facebook is allegedly a “social networking” site. I no longer network through it. I look at pictures. I log into Scrabulous, Scramble, WordTwist, and Friends for Sale, in that order. Something seems to have gone awry. Alright fine, I do post on a few people’s walls, and just today I coordinated with a buddy who’s coming into town tomorrow (Greg! Woo!). Oh, and today I poked someone. I know, it was really unnecessary. But “networking” huh? Yeah…
Ooh, my turn on Scramble.

But I know you all want a post from me anyway. Well, here it is. Foxfield was awesome. I was not nearly as um, “in true form” as I usually am for Foxfield, but it was awesome nonetheless. It was also great to stay mostly away from the Orange Section. That place was an unmitigated disaster. haha. But Chat stayed with me Thursday night and my cousin Kenny came up for the weekend for it, as he had never experienced Foxfield before. I hope I didn’t disappoint. Pictures are available.
I am in Virginia Beach for the week and will be back in Charlottesville Thursday evening. I thought that there would be more sun around here, but the first day I’m here tornadoes are touching down in Suffolk and all sorts of crazy stuff is happening. Alas, I have not been able to get much sun while I’m here. But at least I’m not in C’ville bothering everyone “who wants to go out?? who wants to do X??” No, instead I am eating nonstop and sleeping all day. I did, however, turn in my 36 page Computer Law paper today, which means all I have left is a 25 page Federal Lawyer paper. W00t!
I cannot wait to get my blackberry. I know I shouldn’t. I know I should dread it. But the thought of being able to blog any time, any place sounds awesome to me.
Today I went furniture shopping. No, I don’t know where I’m living in NY yet, nor do I know how much furniture I’ll be able to fit in my square box of an apartment. But that didn’t stop me from looking around.
I mean honestly - how awesome does that look? It was way comfortable too. Plus, it’s called the cuddle circle.

This just in: bear sighting at Paramus Catholic High School in NJ. It was a pretty good lookin’ bear, so far as bears go. Apparently he was just hanging out looking for some food. 9th graders, to be exact. No reports of injuries yet. All outdoor classes have been canceled.
Man, why doesn’t this crap happen at the law school? The best we get is a hungry law student around noon. Not even close to a bear. And certainly not enough to cancel classes.
In other terrifying news, Sam’s Club is limiting the amount of rice people can buy. NOOO!!! DANGER DANGER! This is the worst news ever. Ever.

Anyone who has read pretty much any of my posts know that I LOVE comments. I obviously like the good ones better than the bad, but I got one just now that I thought I’d make a quick comment on. You can read the comment here. So to Max Wilson, this one’s for you.
First and foremost, I don’t seriously think Sean has any regrets about coming to Virginia over Kansas. I also have no doubt that the thought has at least crossed his mind, however briefly. If you’ve read any of my other random babblings this year, you’ll know that I have the utmost respect for him and, like I said in my original post, a man crush indeed. So, I’m not going to bother saying anything else about this, haha.
Second, it is completely conceivable that the sports writer went to Burns for the story. Assuming the story that he published was not a twist of words (an assumption I make based on the lack of response or follow-up from Burns, Leitao, or anyone involved with Virginia athletics), to me it doesn’t matter if Burns went to Reid or Reid went to Burns. Any athlete, especially in either football or basketball, speaking to a media person knows that the appropriate response there is “no comment,” unless you want the story published. A comment like “I don’t know if I’m going to stick with it” sends a lot of different messages about the program and the team. Yes, one of those messages could be “Oh man next year’s recruits are so awesome, I know I’m not even going to get final-five-seconds PT!!” — in which case, SWEET. Let’s all rejoice in that one! But to me, it sends questions about team dynamics, and I wonder if his mentality might also be shared with other teammates. I sure hope not.
You’ll also have to accept my apologies for not collecting information, conducting my own interviews, and “jumping to obtuse conclusions about what others have written.” Let me assure you - if I had access to Burns, Singletary, Leitao, Littlepage, or anyone else, really, I would be all over it. Unfortunately, I am but a peon at the University. However, I did once send a Facebook message to Sean wishing him a happy birthday. He even replied! So, maybe I have more clout than I think I do, but I think we both know better than that, haha.
OK, just two more points to make and I’ll be on my way. First, you say that “Like most bloggers,” I don’t do my research before I write. I don’t purport to be a “blogger.” I purport to be someone who keeps a journal. I don’t expect anyone in the world to come to my site to get their daily fix on UVA sports or really anything I write about in the world. I say things like “YAY we won!” I hope that’s not the type of news people want. The only thing that I could possibly be considered a “blogger” for is the law school, as I have a good sense of what’s going on in here and don’t post things until I’ve checked it a couple times. So, thank you for considering that the content that I put up here is blogworthy. I don’t hold myself as “high” a standard as a good blogger may. Ha. I just said that bloggers hold themselves to a high standard. I hope you know what I mean. I am a babbler. Not a blogger.
Second, you said that you think I delete comments that don’t agree with my opinions, though apparently I am easily critical of others. I take some offense to your thinking that I am easily critical of others. I’m not. If you were to know me in real life (and who knows, maybe you do and you’re writing under a pseudonym), you’d know that I’m more self-critical than anything else. But, I found a silver lining to this insult. You apparently think I get comments! Haha. No, alas. I get comments from some of my good friends. And a few random people. But people generally don’t read my site to get belligerent with me. They read it because they seem to have run out of internet. Although, once (on my old site, before I made this layout) I made a crack about med students using the law school library and a med student said that if he were ever to see my *** *** on his surgery table, he’d refuse to help me. He also said something about bringing blenders to the law library and plugging them in all around me just to piss me off. I have to admit, I deleted those comments. Haha. But yeah, I won’t delete your comment unless it’s unproductive and just violently angry. You don’t seem to hate me / want me to bleed to death on a surgery table, so your comments get to stay. It’s a low standard, really.
Anyway, thanks for the response!
And I hope everyone sees how excited I get when I get comments. Keep them coming.

Chris Long, on ESPN:
You know, I haven’t had that much contact with very many teams. It’s been pretty quiet. I’m starting to wonder if I’m going to get drafted. …please somebody pick me!
After the interviewer says, “I’m going to go out on a limb and say you’ll get drafted. Early.” Chris Long:
That’d be pretty cool.

Today I read a Daily Progress article on UVA Basketball walk-on Andy Burns, and that apparently he is whining about not getting solid playing time over these past couple years. Alright, fine. I understand that you obviously are good at basketball and want to play basketball. No one wants to sit on a bench for four years (unless you’re me, and have no basketball skills and would just be giddy sitting on the bench with the team). But seriously. Whine about it to the media, why don’t you?
He’s all talking about perhaps forgoing his next two years of eligibility so that he can go to an Ivy med school next year and have eligibility and be able to play there. That’s fine with me. I understand that decision. But either do it, or don’t do it. Don’t just hang out here and whine and complain about it and make a big fuss. Leitao should just let him go. Don’t play this “you’re a valuable member of our program, but I want you to do what’s best for you” game. Let him go. And tell him to suck it up.
In other news, I just learned that Sean Singletary chose Virginia four years ago over a scholarship offer from Kansas. Wow. He could have been on a national title team! I mean, I probably wouldn’t have the current mancrush that I have now had he not played here. But still. He must be thinking about that decision now. In response, my friend Andrew writes:
You mean an NCAA national title team. Singletary did have the honor of making it to the CBI Final Four–and he never even had to leave C-ville. Kansas had to travel all over the country for their national title and that’s annoying.

Usually when you come to this site, you can expect to see one of the following: (1) Virginia is awesome, (2) something anti-Duke/Maryland/Virginia Tech (in no particular order), or (3) law school woes.
But today I recognize my duty as a Virginian to take a moment and remember the tragic loss of thirty three lives at Virginia Tech on this day last year. I dont have too terribly much to say about this, except that I hope the families of the victims — all thirty three of them — are doing as well as they can do today. I can only imagine what they must have gone through in the past year, and frankly, I hope never to have to live through that.
The Virginia Tech shootings is an unfortunate reminder that, no matter in which bubble you live, whether here in Charlottesville, there in Blacksburg, over in DeKalb, Illinois, or anywhere else in the country, your entire world can be rocked in one fell swoop. I hope my Hokie friends know that we are all there for them.
