CBI LogoAlright, I’m fully prepared for haters to comment about how this post is totally the post of a losing team. Whatever. Until I hear something worth my time, I stand by my post. I’m excited about UVA playing in the inaugural CBI, and would rather UVA play in the CBI than the NIT. What? Am I crazy???

First of all, UVA is essentially a #1 seed in the CBI. This means that we’ve got a home game to start. Yes, we would have had a home game in the NIT too. But we’ve got first and second round home games in the CBI, plus the potential for more.

Second, I love the CBI format. Reseeding halfway through? Brilliant. I am curious to see what, if any, role that ends up playing for these teams. Also, a best-of-three series for the championship game is just sheer genius. It also guarantees that both teams get a home game.

Third, the teams, at least in this inaugural year, are weak as compared to the NIT. This means my wahoos have a greater chance of advancing to win it all. OK, I know that’s wussing out - weaker schedule, blah blah. But, I’d rather win the CBI than lose in the first or second round of the NIT.

Lastly, the CBI has potential. Who won last year’s NIT? Does anyone know? Exactly. It has been well-established that no one cares about the NIT and no one ever will. The CBI, however, is different. It’s got potential. Yes, I recognize that as of this year, no one will care about the CBI. Next year, no one will care who won it. But the CBI has the potential to overcome the NIT and become a major tournament. Think about being the first champion of a major tournament!

Anyway, maybe I am crazy, but I am glad we are in the CBI and not the NIT. We play Richmond in the first round - tomorrow night at 7pm. The other #1 seeds are Washington, UTEP, and Bradley. Weaksauce. I’m not impressed. Go Hoos.
