Failure

Failure

Wow.  So, I had one goal over these three days, and that was to attend these final three feb clubs.  Oops.  I missed last night’s due to my last round of Dillarding edits, ever.  Woohoo.

OK, pictures of Monday night’s Feb Club as well as the UVA’s victory over Georgia Tech are up.  Yay.

Meanwhile, check out this half-time act from the GT game!

Rededication

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

I am somewhat ashamed of myself.  After hitting 6 out of the first 7 Feb Clubs, I dropped a few.  I looked solid for a recovery when I hit 3-for-3 that next weekend.  Since then, I have been to but one or two events.  This past week of crazy didn’t help.  I plan on using tomorrow to finish up Dillarding and any other “academics” I may have to do.  I hope to finish the Feb Club month out strong.

Weekend Recovery

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

Most people stay up all night during the weekends, and then use weekdays to sort of make up for it. Not me, apparently.  This past week has been one of the toughest yet.  A combination of SBA transitioning, the admitted students’ phoneathon, and dillarding has led to my getting 2.5-3 hours of sleep each night last week, going to bed at either 5am or 6am.  Horrendous.  I’ve since “made up” for it by getting nearly 12 hours of sleep one night.

Hopefully this upcoming week will be a little easier.  It begins with a UVA-GT game today, following a heartbreaking loss to Miami on the road.  I am praying that does not lead us into a downward spiral.  Yikes.

What a weekend

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

Wow, what a sleep-deprived weekend. Sports law assigned entirely too much reading. It’s a class that meets 4:30-6:30 on Friday and then 9:30-11:30 on Saturday. I stayed up till 4am Fri night finishing up Saturday’s reading. It was horrible. But on the plus side, right after class I went to the JPJ to see our Hoos beat Florida State 73-70. We are now tied with UNC at the top of the ACC, with only 3 conference losses. Not too shabby, eh? (Though one may thank our fortunate conference schedule.)

Afterwards, while I meant to take a nap, I didn’t. I quickly found 7:00 approaching, whence we went to Vivace for dinner, followed by the Barrister’s Ball, the law school prom. It was a great time, with lots of (open!) bars with very short waits. Good times.

Here I am today on Sunday. Charlotte was in town so we had lunch at the Biltmore. I tried doing a few hours of Dillarding these 1L briefs, but now it’s time for a Chinese New Year’s dinner and mahjong at Grace’s place. I am making egg tarts! Mmm egg tarts.

In sad news, our #3 Men’s Tennis team fell to #1 Georgia, while our #1 returning National Champions Men’s Lacrosse team fell to Drexel 11-10. Apparently a Drexel freshman scored 2 goals in the last 10 seconds. What a heartbreaker. It also ended a 19-game home winning streak. Sad times.

Pictures of Barrister’s and the FSU game are up!

That’s just embarrassing

Friday, February 16th, 2007

This is just embarrassing.  I don’t know why they made my head so big here.  I’m also fairly positive that people did not vote for me so that they could see my face smiling at them whenever they log into LawWeb.  Also, there is a grammatical disaster in there, and there is nothing I can do about it!  It is bringing me physical pain.

Blogger.

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

Today two people on two separate instances called me a blogger today. It’s not that I take offense to this, it’s that I don’t know if I can live up to such a title. I mean, first of all, this isn’t a blog. It’s a journal. Get it straight. Secondly, I tend to think that most bloggers have something to get across to the world in general…the validity or quality of which I will not judge today. I don’t think I have anything to get across. At all. I mean, for pete’s sake, I update you all on things like, “I saw a horse at Foxfield.” I’m pretty sure that has nothing to do with anything. I don’t even have wit to share.

I am not a blogger. Or if I am, I am a very bad one at that. Perhaps I’m a journalist? No, that still implies I’m doing something productive for society. That’s a falsehood. I guess I’m just a guy with a website. Websitist.

Poking my eyes out

Monday, February 12th, 2007

I know I shouldn’t complain about Professional Responsibility given how “important” it is in the workplace, but right now I want to scrape my eyeballs out, I’m so bored.  We have a guest lecturer today and he is giving us tips to becoming a better lawyer.  They include things like, “Treat others with respect,” “Don’t speed,” and “Be aggressive.”  But also, “Don’t speed.”  This is ridiculous.

Spring Break?

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Pictures from Das Klub and from Breakfast Club are up.

Cruise ShipI am busy today looking up cruises for Spring Break.  Anyone want to come with Team Fun?  So far it’s Me, Katy, Ericka, Paul, and Mihai.  If that is not an (a) extremely attractive and (b) amazingly awesome (check out that assonance) group, I don’t know what is!  Which reminds me, I need to go to the gym.

Worst party yet

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

Just a quick update here to say that last night’s Feb Club party was undoubtedly the worst one of the year thus far.  It was a good idea to have an Old School party at Pi Kapp.  It was a bad idea to have such limited access to alcohol, and to allow the hallways become so crowded (why were people just standing in the overly-lit hallway anyway?).  I have only nine pictures to show of last night’s party…three of which were taken before we even got there.  We got there at 11:15.  By 12:30, we were beyond ready to go.  Tonight’s Das Klub will hopefully be amazing compared to last night.

And, of course, GO HOOS!

Sudden Doubt Over My Hoos

Friday, February 9th, 2007

SabresSo, I just took a second to look at Virginia’s schedule, record, and all that jazz.  I have sudden doubts about our apparent success in the ACC thus far.  Don’t get me wrong - I’m STOKED that we are 8-2 in a power conference (the ACC may only have 2 teams in the top 25 right now, but there are a good number of teams - BC, UVA, VT - who are knocking at the door).  But I can see why the Hoos are not a current top 25, and are a 6-seed in the most recent ESPN Bracketology (playing in Spokane, WA even).  Take a look at our ACC wins (I say ACC because I figure the ‘Zona / ‘Zaga victories are countered by the embarassing App St. / Utah losses).  True, we’ve beaten three out of the four ranked ACC teams (#1 UNC being the only loss there).  But since then, Maryland has crumbled to a shameful 3-6, while Clemson has dropped five out of their last six games.  Even the stunning Duke victory has been undermined, as Duke dropped the next game to Florida State (at Cameron), and let Carolina steal the rivalry game.  Our remaining victories have been twice over 3-6 NC State, another over Maryland, one over a 2-8 Miami squad, and one over a 2-8 Wake Forest squad.  We lost to both Boston College and UNC (though, both were on the road).

I’m not saying we’re not a good team - I think we’ve got a strong chance of making the tournament…perhaps even making a run?  (Don’t worry, I just knocked on wood.)  But our remaining games are not particularly challenging (though this Saturday’s game at Virginia Tech is HUGE - a victory would lock us into the tourney).  This bodes well for a strong ACC record, but does not bode as well for a strong seeding.  It comforts me, though, that we have a very real chance of becoming (I am knocking on wood like crazy now) the ACC Regular Season Champions.  Winning out the rest of the season - not guaranteed, but certainly not unattainable - would secure that.  Boston College still plays Duke and Carolina later in the season.  Carolina, while they also have an easy home stretch, end the season with Duke.  A Duke victory is key to securing the Hoos’ road to victory.
