Full Integration

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

For those inquiring minds, I’ve now fully integrated my Super Hoo Sports page with my Journal.  I decided I didn’t update the Sports page enough to justify its own column, and also, I don’t think enough users went to that link.  So here we are…all one big happy blog family.

The End is Near! …I mean, HERE!!!

Hoooooray I’m done with all my callback interviews! You don’t even know how good it feels to just sit and wait and hope that offers will magically be rolling in. My last callback was sort of a throwaway - the interviewer asked me where I was in the process, and my response was something like, “Well actually, this is my very last callback and then I’ll be done. So if it sounds like I don’t care, I apologize, because…well… it’s my last one.” Haha. Ah well.

What a sweet weekend. I flew into New York Thursday night and didn’t leave until Thursday. Meanwhile, Rico flew up from Kentucky to spend a couple days (really, just one day) with me there, and that was fun. I also met up with Da-In while I was up there, and that’s cool too. It was also fun to see how many other UVA folks were up there at the same time. We went to Columbia and sat on their sundial and made fun of them…that was fun. We tried going to ESPNZone to catch up on a day’s worth of football (did we seriously lose to ECU?), but it was just so packed that we went elsewhere. Good thing, because I think the pub we went to was somewhat cheaper/reasonable ($6 for draughts, $6 for Jacks). We also had Junior’s cheesecake. mmmmm.

Donald SutherlandAs far as restaurants at which I ate…Zanzibar (Mediterranean Tapas…not with a firm), Grand Harmony (I love going to that place for dim sum!! Went with family, not a firm), a few other Chinatown restaurants (Big Wong, Wing Wong…neither with a firm), Circo (where we had a Donald Sutherland sighting!!), Bar Americain (Bobby Flay’s restaurant), and a couple other smaller, random places without firms. All in all it was a great trip for my stomach (or horrible…depending on your viewpoint).
I can’t remember much more other than the food. I tend to be blind like that. Anyway, now that it’s over, I’m thinking about actually doing my reading and stuff like that. What a novel concept!

Shutting this down?

Monday, October 9th, 2006

I’m contemplating shutting this part of my blog down. Not too many people read this, right? I may just integrate this with my regular journal. Thoughts?

EDIT 10/11/06: This post was referring to the Super Hoo Sports section

Double that

Sunday, October 8th, 2006

$639 must be the corporate rate. I just noticed a sign on the back of my door that says “Rate of this room: $1299/person.” That is all.

What?

Sunday, October 8th, 2006

So.  I was excited to see a commanding 37-0 victory over Duke.  Few people were…after all, it’s Duke, right?  Well, at that point, the entire season was up in the air.  Who knew we’d be risking entering October with only one mark in the W column?  We were all anticipating an off-season, but I certainly did not expect it to be this bad.  I figure, 7 wins at worst, right?  Yeesh.

I’ve been in New York since Thursday and unfortunately was unable to catch the ECU game.  I log online this morning to catch up on a few scores, and ‘lo and behold…WHAT?!  Can someone please let me know what the F happened in that game??

Also, it seems that our men’s soccer team dropped another one this weekend.  What happened there?!  Ahhhh my world is falling apart!

Free wireless!

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

In case anyone was curious, Charlottesville airport provides free wireless for everyone! It’s pretty sweet. I just thought I’d pop in and say that. Also, my 4:20 flight was delayed till 5:20, hence why I’m just sitting here updating. Anyway, I’m excited to get good food and sleep in a hotel where, according to Searfoorce, “at least a dozen geese must have gone into the making of [my] bed.” Sweeet. Ooh, they’re about to board.

Party in DC

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

So, I got back last night from DC doing a round of interviews up there. Overall it was a pretty cool weekend. I spent Saturday night at McKenzie’s crib. That was fun. She was right - she’s living in a house of beautiful women. But I think there’s a dude that lives there too? I don’t really remember. Anyway, I need to visit her more often haha. I also got to see Greg Barnett…a cool cat I met down in Miami when I was visiting their law school. I’m glad I got to catch up with him - at one point, we were all, “Wow…we had only met / known each other in person for 2 or 3 days…and as we were having dinner, it felt like we’ve been good friends forever.” So that’s cool. I blame my charming personality. I wonder why it doesn’t work like that with women… Sigh.

We hung out at Buffalo Billiard’s and shot pool and all that good stuff. It was fun until McKenzie lost her cell phone. Then the night went awry. Afterwards, we went to DC Improv to see Bobby Slayton. He um, was not funny. It was a string of crude humor for about an hour and a half. It was almost painful at one point. His openers were a good time though. And, best part yet, I ran into Jennie Gross at the Improv! That was sweeet. Sunday we walked around at the Eastern Market where I bought sorbet and McKenzie bought a playboy. I know…it was all backwards. We always knew McKenzie was a boy anyway.

Anyway, so Monday I did an interview with one of the firms - we went to McCormick and Schmick’s for lunch. mmmmm delicious salmon! Monday night I had dinner with McK and Greg again at ESPNZone. Tuesday I did another round of interviews (lunch at the Bombay Club). And then I came home just before the traffic piled up, thank goodness.

So here I am now. I went to all my classes today, so that’s good. Tomorrow I don’t think I’ll be able to make it to all of them just because I have so much to do before I head up to NY for fall break. If anyone is up there, give me a ring. I want to hang out. Seriously.

Out of Control

Sunday, October 1st, 2006

Mmm, just got back from a delightful dinner at Zola (DC) with the law firm with whom I’m interviewing tomorrow. I am SO FULL! We just kept ordering food - it was great. It started with appetizers - crab sticks (like crab egg rolls, minus the vegentables haha) and Lobster Mac & Cheese. Oh man, SO good! Then I had a nice honey-glazed chicken and *gasp* vegetables! I didn’t even finish all of that, I was so full. But of course, I had a banana something or another - basically a baked Alaska with bananas mmmmm. So yes. Now I am extremely full and will probably go to the hotel gym soon.

Hotel FeesBut first, let’s discuss how crazy this callback system is. I have a few callbacks in New York next week - I booked through one firm for all the interviews. As you see from this picture, it’s at a pretty swanky place - the Sofitel NY. But can you make out the rates there? $639.00 per night!! CRAZY! What’s also crazy is that because I’m interviewing with firms on a Fri, Mon, and Tues, it makes most sense to just stay in NY for the weekend. So..5 nights…$639 per night…$3195!! EGAD! I’m not really sure if I’m worth all that money, hahaha (If you’re the law firm reading this right now, I thank you, and would like to say that I, in fact, am worth all that money!).

Well, alright. That’s all I have to say about that. I just think it’s amazing that they’re willing to put me up at a place that is $639 a night. Yeesh!
