Seems that another weekend has come and gone. What did I do? Hmm, I guess not much. Shocking. I took work home and churned out a memo. I’m happy about that anyway Ooh, I also finished the Chinese Community Association of Hampton Roads website at http://www.ccahr.org. See? Who says I’m not in touch with my roots? Yyyyeah boy. Wow. Yeah. So I guess that’s all I did this weekend. Sorry this post has zero fun in it. I’m looking forward to the next couple weeks of work though - hopefully I’ll get a few good projects. We’ve got a relatively heavy social calendar planned for the next few weeks, involving a half-day fishing trip, horse races at colonial downs ($500 on horse #3 to WIN! I don’t even know which horses are what), a day at Busch Gardens, a talent night, and lots more. Should be good times. I’ve never been to Colonial Downs, but I’m excited, even though it’s on the day we have to get to the office by 7:15AM to get to Richmond for a firm-wide meeting. Yaawn, I’m tired just thinking about that ungodly hour. goodnight.
Oh, and also - Dave Matthews Band pictures are up in the photo album.

Oooh, I have been such a rebel this week. It’s a short 3-day week, and I haven’t ironed my dress pants once this week! I am really living on the edge here. As I sit here getting ready to go in to work, I’m thinking of the agenda today…Morning Bagels when I get in. Attorney Lunch around noon. Pizza, wine, and beer at 4:30 for the new summers. Yeah. Life’s not so bad.
In other news, I think I have some sort of virus on my computer that Ad-Aware won’t get rid of. Grrrr

Wow, that was UNBELIEVABLE! The firm got me a pair of tickets to see the Dave Matthews Band at the VB Amphitheater . . . SECOND ROW, right smack in the center! Seriously, it was amazing. We were close enough to smell the pot that he must have been smoking backstage (Come on now - it’s Dave. You know this is coming). I called Chat a couple times during the show to let him hear, and I told him I could smell his pot and Chat heard, “smell his crotch.” Um. Yeah. This is awkward.
Anyway, he played almost all the favorites - pretty much every good song except for Ants Marching. HOW can you NOT play Ants Marching?!?! Absolutely ridiculous. But the show was a blast, I had a good bit of alcohol in me (read below), and the lightshow on stage, as usual, was spectacular. Also, he closed out the show with fireworks, and you can’t ever beat that. I don’t know if you can read the picture above, but it’s the ticket - Section 102 (center) Row B (awesome). Once I figure out a good way to set up my photo album, I’ll post all my pictures online. I got some good ones.
Oh wait - the story doesn’t end there! I ran into Katie Coan at the show and ‘lo and behold, she works for a DMB company up in Charlottesville! She had a pair of wristbands for her and her friend Ian to go to the backstage VIP tent…but lucky for me, she had an extra wristband! So I freakin got to go backstage while the rest of the law firm were in their seats and relax at their open bar (always a good thing - always). I got a few into me while I was there (they wouldn’t let me take it outside the tent, booo) and I actually saw their violinist back there boozin’ it up! Sadly, it was before the show and I didn’t know who he was (come on - aside from Dave, who really recognized the rest? haha), so I didn’t get a picture or anything. Plus, he wasn’t wearing his mesh shirt at the time. FYI.
OK, I gotta shower and go to bed. Work first thing in the morning :/ …oh well, what can you do . I got a video of the show too that I’ll put up - it’s proof that he was clearly high at the time. Unfortunately my battery camera was dead halfway in and I couldn’t take any more vids. Meh.

Football-wise, I think Virginia is having a pretty good recruiting season. It’s always hard to tell how your team’s going to look, since all recruiting articles tend to talk people up. For some reason, you never read an article saying, “UVA lands commitment because no one else wanted him.” …even though you know that sometimes, that’s gotta be true.
But among the success stories is UVA-committed Peter Lalich (for the 2007 class). He’s from Springfield, VA, but was recently selected to the Elite 11 Quarterback Competition in Southern California. It’s a camp that apparently Matt Schaub teaches at, but despite that, I hear it’s actually relatively prestigious haha. Also, I read this quote from Lalich, “I’m going to work hard to win as many ACC and National Championships as I can.” I sure hope he means it because we are reading for a step up. He’s a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com, and the #2 in the state as ranked by TheSabre. Cool deal.
But just when you start getting excited about your recruits, and article like this (from the June 30, 2006 Sabremail) comes out:
At least one recruit from the 2006 class will not ever attend the University of Virginia.
Gavin Smith, the 6-2, 270-pound defensive tackle prospect out of Wakefield High School in Raleigh (N.C.), was officially denied by Admissions earlier this week. He had an opportunity to head to Fork Union Military Academy but, for several reasons, does not want to go in that direction.
Smith had known for at least a month that there was a chance he would have to attend Fork Union, so this week’s news does not come as a complete surprise. Smith was “devastated” at not being able to get to Virginia according to his mother [DeAnn Smith], but wants to play Division 1 football this fall and is looking to head elsewhere.
Smith, who had a qualifying SAT score, had a poor final semester in the classroom (mainly due to personal reasons) and this was presumably the main reason why he was denied admission.
Oh well, what can you do?

So, despite my less-than-raving reviews of Superman Returns, I was somehow convinced to go watch it again tonight. McKenzie is in town and demands entertainment, so here I was to supply it. At least this time we saw it on IMAX! Let me tell you - if you plan on watching this movie, watch it on IMAX! The six-story-tall screen made it really THAT much better. Also, there are 20-some-odd-minutes worth of actual 3Dness. Apparently this is the first movie that has ever been converted from 2D to 3D (as opposed to otherones that were shot in 3D). So that’s kind of cool. Computer-rendered-Superman still bothered me, but the big screen almost made it OK. I’d say watching it on IMAX bumps it up half a star. At least.

Woohoo! Four day weekend! I had to put an American flag here just to justify my elatedness about the upcoming weekend. I don’t really know what to do with it yet…any ideas? McKenzie is coming into town this weekend and I have to show her a good time in Virginia Beach.
On July 4, my firm got us tickets to see the Dave Matthews Band!! Row B, Center! I’m taking McKenzie as my date so it’s going to be sooo much fun. Unfortunately one of the partners took the Row A seats already arrrrgh. Ah well, what can you do? So this weekend I’m listening to DMB exclusively.
NONE of my professors have put any of their grades online yet. July 3 is their deadline to submit, and supposedly they’ll be up shortly afterwards. But we all know what that means. I’m never getting my grades. Ever.
I think the 4-day weekend can start with some nice, solid sleep. Goodnight.
